Huiyan Zhang is an artist from China, currently working between London and China. Her practice explores relationships between life, death, land, nature and organic forms. Working across drawing, printmaking, painting, photography, ceramics and installation, she is particularly drawn to small and often overlooked forms in the natural world, considering processes of growth, decay, transformation and entanglement.

Her Fungi series (2024) marked an important point in the development of her practice. Through observing fungi and their role in decomposition and regeneration, she became interested in the interconnectedness of life and the shifting boundaries between human and non-human forms. Her practice has since expanded beyond fungi towards a broader exploration of land, nature and ecological relationships.

Printmaking and drawing remain important foundations of her practice, while material experimentation allows her to explore new possibilities for images and organic forms. She is interested in how different materials, processes and spaces can transform and extend her work, allowing her practice to remain open to new forms, connections and directions.
